Before the server was taken down, you couldn't even sign up through the game. It was broken and you had to go to the website to sign up. Since they took the server down, you can 'sign up' and 'upload' without an error message. That was not possible before.
They changed something that so that it works now. It doesn't work in an optimal way, but the programmers are kings of lazy, half-finished patching.
So, it very much fits with the pattern of how things get 'fixed' in the Saints Row series. Always weird/somber when servers get shut down for games I played. I still remember getting the game at launch night with my older bro. He got a 360 copy and I got it for PS3. I remember grabbing some Taco Bell on the way back and a buddy of mine was waiting on me to do some online coop once I got home. We played for like 30 minutes before we both decided to call it a night and crash and get some shut eye lol (midnight launch, dunno what we were thinking.) Good times.Anyway point is enjoy the features of games you like while you still can. You never know when shit will get disabled and rendered inaccessible ever again.
